NSS   – NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

About ACAR NSS unit

             The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Adhiyamaan College of Agriculture and Research (ACAR), Athimugam has been successfully functioning well with so many activities furnishing development to the volunteers as well as the community since 2016.

            ACAR NSS unit is a young NSS SFU (Self Financing Unit) registered under Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, NSS Regional Centre, Chennai. The NSS unit of ACAR constitutes 242 volunteers.

            The overall objective of NSS is “Personality development of the students through community services”.

            ACAR NSS unit has been actively involved in servicing to the villages in and around the campus.

            The motto of National Service Scheme is NOT ME BUT YOU.

VISION

          To develop a democratic society with equality by supporting ‘Social Service’ without expectation and keeping sympathy for ‘All Living Being’ by accommodating each other’s angle of opinion.

MISSION

         To foster enthusiasm and high moral values in students especially NSS volunteers through the activities, orientation programs and camps. To develop students’ personality by involving those (volunteers) in planning, decision making, organizing and execution of the activities of the unit.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand the community in which they work
  2. Understand themselves in relation to their community;
  3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process;
  4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
  5. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;
  6. Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities;
  7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
  8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;
  9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  10. Practice national integration and social harmony.

Regular NSS activities

        Regular activities viz., NSS orientation class, tree planting, rallies, campus cleaning, temple cleaning, playground, hostel cleaning, organizing special lectures, celebrating national day, NSS day, conducting blood donation camp, various competitions, old age home visit, training to traditional culture etc. are carried out by the NSS volunteers within and outside the campus premises.

NSS Special camp activities

         During the fourth semester, a special camp programme for a period of seven days is conducted regularly in the adopted village. Both NSS volunteers and NSS Programme Officer stays in the adopted village itself throughout the camp period and carry out the village improvement programme. For serviving, Special campaign activities viz., conducting general medical camp, dental camp, eye camps, free veterinary camp, cleaning activities, tree planting, organizing lecture, rallies etc., are carried out by the NSS volunteers in the particular adopted village.
