Department of Biochemistry

Biochemistry department provides course in Introduction to plant Biochemistry (2+1) to the undergraduate students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture. The biochemistry department extended the research facilities like extraction and isolation of oil, Natural dye and secondary metabolites from herbal plants and insects. The department have Soxhlet extraction unit, thin layer chromatography (TLC), Column chromatography, UV chamber, Melting point apparatus and Hot air oven.

Ongoing Research Project 2022:

• Extraction of oil from herbal plants and production of value-added products like Herbal bathing soap

1. Lemon grass.
2. Pepper mint.
3. Coriander
4. Curry leaves.
5. Other herbal plants.

Future Research project:

• Extraction and isolation of important secondary metabolites from plants and insects.
• Extraction of natural dye from plants.
• Preparation of biodiesel and bio ethanol from plant materials.
• Extraction and isolation of oil from oil seeds.
